ok lets face it ban em and everyone will want em
anything gov't gets involved with they tend to screwup

ok how to start with an opinion
WHICH IS ALL THIS IS AND OPINIONS ARE LIKE A******S
EVERYONE HAS ONE AND EVRYONE'S STINKS BUT MINE

OK I'm currently a veterinarian evidently NOT destined to be an aquatic vet but oh well
I was an RN at 21 (before vet school)
personally i like pits. I f I owned a dog it would be a pit or presa
(no kids, short hair, nice looking dogs) BUT I have cats
generally there is some warning before they nail you (umlike rotts which in my experience can be pretty unpredictable
They can be totally babyfied, where you have to carry them around
they are the cutest puppies in the world
thye are a very popular breed lots of folk have them
they were originally bred to fight and kill stuff, (read strong predatory instinct) they have a high pain threshold, they were also bred to be devoted to their (adult) owners (by culling those that attacked humans)
OK soo
Some will kill smaller animals, and sometimes children (which flap around and scream like animals) and evidently they enjoy doing this not because they are evil but because it is instinct in action
This is horrible( in a sick funny way) and it was a rottweiler i was fooling with in the exam room
I said "where's the kitty cat?" omg his eyes lit up like i'd said treat
an american bull at another practice starts licking his chops whenever he sees one

LOL an er nurse friend HATES them he says every bite that goes to the er is from a pit, probly exagageration but if one gets you you usually need a dr

Interestingly, they may become less predatory with selective breeding, keep the desired traits, don't breed undesirable

Plus thankfully some of the new competitions with these dogs is in pulling ie strength contests

basically, I've worked in the inner city and having a tough mean dog is a status symbol mostly for high school age boys
adults who own them usually care well for them and have well trained dogs that they can handle (or at least warn you about)

I know of one instance where i had advised a girl not to leave her cat alone unsupervised with her 2 pits
she told me they would never do anything
needless to say a couple weeks later there she was in hysterics wanting them put down for murdering her cat
LOL poor Cory got locked outside kennel when one went after him, it got his shoe
one locked on a german shepard when new kennel let 2 dogs out at once
lol
the head tech who was a "dog man" and me (dumbass) ran in to save the shepard
the other techs locked us in after we broke him from the shepard and peeked throught the window
Ok once they are "on" their minds are gone he came after US
that is veerry interesting everything happens too fast to be scared
then the dog came to it's senses and went back in it's kennel

So like everything
they have good points and bad points
responsible owners usually have no problem with them

I dunno i guess the right to live as you wish goes about as far as what you do affects others

I would love to have a lynx or bobcat
or i did up until i got jacked up by a 10 pound cat
Now that was evil in action
we put cardboard on the outside of his kennel because he would reach out to try to get someone
would've won about 10,000 on funniest home videos one of his relatives is probly the reason the "cat musher" (squeeze cage) was invented

im trying to find a good home for a pit mix now..her nose is broken and she has a few sore spots from her last owner punishing her for jumping.:irked:
she's about 2-3 mo's old... since we got her she's nothing but energy, she had'nt seen grass before.. it was cute to watch her test the grass and meet other dogs.

Just been to crufts today was so great to see staffies, pits etc without muzzles etc. In fact the blue staffie was the biggest draw for kids and he was wonderful.

Some pix of my killers, savage, eminently "banable " dogs!!!

and, above all, look at the murderous intent in their eyes!

and yes, the feet are mine.:D
