Band-Aid for Pbass???

The only thing that you NEED to do is make sure the water is clean and clear with plenty of oxygen, and there is a good supply of food. However, I personally add salt as I have found the cichla's to heal faster and it takes care of any bacteria that might upset the wound. Depending on the species of cichla, they can range from very sensitive to water conditions(intermedia) to very tolerant to a wide range of conditions (Mono's). Since you have a Mono, what you do should be based on what you are comfortable with and not just what others tell you they do. Good Luck on the healing!

The tank is 34 gallons I added 20 tsp of salt did a 40% water change. Today he looks the worst. The black vertical lines are starting to fade alot today and he hasnt eaten any goldfish. I will add 10 more tsp in a few hours after I see how he reacts to the first addition of salt. Any more recommendations?

Way too much salt imo.. Cichla are soft water fish and as I'm sure they may be able to tolerate light traces of salt, salt is not commonly found in their natural soft water conditions.

I have dont 2 water changes since to remove the salt just taking water from my 210g to refill the tank. The most recent water change is occurring right now and its about a 70% water change. He has been upside down at the bottom of the tank since 7pm last night still breathing and looking around but not swimming or attempting to swim.
