My LFS was selling some shark eggs about a year ago. Just the other day when I was in they all of a sudden had a 14-15" banded bamboo shark. Apparently someone bought one of the eggs, it hatched, and grew to that size IN A 55GALLON, and was then dropped off at the store. I thought it was rare for shark eggs to hatch in aquarium housings. Am I way off or was this just one lucky SOB?

It's unfortunate that they didn't inform the customer that these fish reach large sizes. IMO, you buy it, you own it. They should have asked about the facility it was being kept in.

Example: At an lfs in Indiana, a fat kids mom asked how much it was for their approx 15" Giant Gourami. The store person said it was $400, and you have to have proof that you have a 400 gallon aquarium. She probably thought he was rude, but he did the right thing.

Haha, I think the LFS wanted a new bamboo shark for their display tank, they lost their old one to a clown trigger that went homicidal.

Lol, Wyldfya
That would do it but, man you spelled Clown trigger wrong it should be a t t i t u d e.

Yeah, no kidding. This was a pretty good sized trigger too. From nose to tail base he was around 10".

Bamboo eggs hatch quite often. If you can get them eating, they do well. But getting them eating can be hard from time to time.

they hatch quite a bit of the time. its not a very rare occurence. raising them can be a little harder, but not too much of a problem to the experienced a lot of the time (i think). they are obviously more fragile at that age. lfs here get them in quite often, sometimes hatch there too

I purchased 2 banded bamboo eggs and they both hatched and my sharks ate as soon as I offered food. They have since then been eating and growing very well. The only reason for a shark egg not to hatch is if the egg wasn't fertilized.

As for what you said about the petstore loosing a bamboo to a clown trigger, They should have known better:screwy: . One of the biggest things to know about is what tank mates are suitable for your sharks and Triggers are one of the worst:grinno: . Especially a Clown Trigger.:WHOA:

The only suitable tank mates for bamboo sharks are other simmiar sharks, rays, eels, groupers, marine bettas, and remoras.
