Banded Bamboo Shark

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey all, I have 4 bamboo sharks that i'm about to add to my 3200 custom. I am considering adding a few larger angels to the tank as well (a friend is trying to re house them). I also have 3 large groupers (spotted, Pollenei, and panther) that are currently in the same tank with the sharks. Any ideas if this would all work out? I dont see a problem, the only thing that I am wondering about is the angels, but i could do with out them if need be,

ive been feeding my bamboo shark silversides, prawns, shrimp, and krill, and the odd damsel or chromis)

I was wondering, is it fine to feed bamboo sharks raw, river caught salmon? Should it be frozen first to kill off parasites?

also is it fine to house larger tangs with bamboo sharks? i have a pacific sailfin, a naso, an achiles, a hippo, 2 yellows, and a powder blue with my shark

is it better to keep sharks in pairs or alone?

at the moment it is in an 8 foot long, by 32" wide by ? tall tank

Angel might pick, just keep an eye on them.

I wouldn't feed too much 'wild' caught stuff just to insure you aren't opennig the door for paraistes etc... To go with that, I'd avoid feeding too much Salmon. It's more or less candy for sharks. It's good for getting new sharks eating or for sick sharks to keep them fat, but too much can lead to liver issues (when they start to store the extra fat there).
Tangs vary with each animal. I've kept tangs with benthic sharks a LOT, but every now and then you find a tang that will be relentless with attacking small sharks.
As for pairs vs alone... it's up to you. A few species do very well in groups - and you'll find them that way in the wild (coral cats, white tip reefs, nurse etc...).
