Yup...that should work as well. I heard that red is a hard color for fish to detect so it still seems like it's dark for them.

ehh im quite sure that 20 red leds is cheaper than one red reptile light so i will probably use those

Definitely get them. I have seven in my 55. And I see at least some of them regularly, too. During the day, they mostly just hide in the sand (I can see their heads or fins sticking out), but at night, when I drop in food and power down to my blue LED lunar lights, they come out and join in the frenzy. While they aren't nearly as active as some of my other fish, they are nevertheless pretty entertaining.

As for finding them, I would just watch your LFSs. I think I got my group from three different places.

I've got 6 in a heavily stocked 29g with a few of the smaller species cichlids (con's and a female Rainbow cichlid), a couple of smaller fancy pleco's, and a declawed Marble Crayfish.

I've got one that usually stays above the sand most of the day, if not in the open it's hiding under driftwood. Most of them hid in the sand all day long, a few will occasionally come out for shrimp pellets if the lights are on.

I find it kinda fun to look for them in the sand lol

ill see if i can special order at my lfs...

what do leds run you?

anyone know some cheap sand that works good the sand at my lfs is like 11 bucks a pound :/?

Just get regular play sand. I think it cost me 3 and change for a 50-lb bag at Home Depot.

As for the lunar lights, I got them off of the Drs. Foster and Smith site: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3733+12760&pcatid=12760

I have 1 main "hub" and 2 links on the 55 and it looks excellent. They are not on sale now, so if you want a better price, you can wait and see if/when they reduce the price. I think mine were on sale when I got them. Even for full price though, they are great.

im going to try the sand should i slowly convert the tank over id like to avoid killing all my bactiria

I'm not sure how one would slowly switch over to sand. If it were me, I would just completely break down the tank. While doing that, keep all of the fish and the filter media (and anything else that might have the bacteria on it) in a bucket(s) (or rubbermaid) with a battery-powered air pump to keep it all alive. That way you have the time to make your switch.
