banjo catfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Been awhile since I did any updates (pic heavy) .... and almost gave up the hobby actually ... but a side project revitalized us.

Anyhow moved the Banjo tank to another part of the room and did a re-scape on the tank. Removed most of the plants and took it in a different direction completely. The tank had become way overgrown and out of control. Came across a passage out rock caves with sandy bottoms pertaining to Banjo's ... so that's what I did. On the re-scape we removed everything except 2 pieces of wood, the smaller sword plant, the Madagascar Lace Leaf and a few shoots of Red Wendtii in places around the tank. We added 5 pieces of stone to create a rock cave for the Banjo's. I removed all the White Clouds so the tank only has 12 algae eating shrimp and 8 Banjo's now (my 2 eel-tailed Banjo's passed away).

So here's the sequence of photo's from when we started removing everything, some measurements of the Madagascar Lace Leaf and ending with how the tank is now. The older boy is my plant specialist and the younger one is the lucky kid with this tank at the end of his bed.

I gotta say the changes have been good. The Madagascar is casting a great shadow now, just started putting IAL's back into the tank the other day. Plus I see the Banjo's way more often now with the lights on. I just need to look in the cave and they're laying on a rock ledge or the sandy bottom half of the time.
Now if I can get the tannis levels back in the water as they were before ... then I might be satisfied.

That's a lucky boy, having a tank at the foot of the bed. The cats look great. I'm really impressed with that lace plant. What type of light are you running on there? Duration? Also do you use co2. I have sorta a black thumb but may try plants more this summer.

Hey Calichai ... thanks for the compliment.

The light is a fluval freshwater LED 5200k and it runs for 12hrs white light then 12 hrs blue light.

There's no CO2 injection/bubbler ... instead we just add Api CO2 Booster daily and Api Leaf Zone once a week (half the recommended dose only)
