Barbed or non barbed

I dont agree that a barbs only purpose is to hold bait. If that is the case why does every tourney angler use hooks with barbs on their lures?

BTW if I use bait, its circle hooks all the way unless im fishing for bait!

Couldn't tell you, butt believe what you want. I always fish barbless for fly fishing, and never lost a fish due tot he barb not being on the hook. Proper angle and pressure keep the fish hooked, it's simple physics.

I've also caught enough fish on conventional tackle barbless to know.

Again, do what you want, pros do what they want, but I have rarely ever
had a barb make a catch as opposed to playing a fish properly.

If you drop your rod tip, I guarantee you will lose tons of fish, barbed or not.

I think because they are fishing for money;)

Does anyone use circle hooks while ice fishing? I tried it once, but found they are harder to remove than traditional J-hooks.

Barbs serve one purpose - to hold the bait on. If I didn't bait fish, I wouldn't bother with barbs ever. Proper pressure is what keeps the fish on, not the barb. Plus, it's easier to remove from you if you hook yourself.

That being said, to each their own.
only barbs on the the shank hold bait on...barbs near the point hold fish on with no chance of escape.the whole point in fishing is to fight a fish whats the point in fishing if the fish cant get away its just reeling in a fish.on the other hand barbless hooks makes fishing fun by trying to keep a good hold on the fish..

if fish can get unhooked whenever they want whats the use in fishing?
i have lossed tons of fish whith barbed hooks, it all depends on where in the mouth the hook sets.
LOL oscar and redtailed cat, how true that is !!!

Apparently youve never really been fishing if you think a fish cant get off with a barb on the hook!

i never use barbed hooks and ive only lost one fish using barbless soive never seen the point in using barbed hooks.becase its mean on the fish i respect them if you used barbed its just a walk in the park an easy fight but doesent match the adrenaline 50-50 chance of catching or losing a fish.

barbed when salt water fishing, no barbs when fresh water fish.
fresh water: i like the challange
salt water: LOVE TO EAT FISH.
