i am thinking of taking all/most of the gravel out of my 90. i think that because i have a good 3-4in of gravel it is trapping alot of crap and causing my ph and amonia to go up. is this a good idea? alternatives?

Gravel vac more often. I know a lot of people like bare bottom tanks, but personally i'm not a fan. I think a tank with some decor looks a lot better, and really isnt that hard to maintain.

Im not to sure about this thought, but wouldnt the only place you have the bacteria growth in a bare bottom tank be the filter media? If thats the case its seems even more risky to go bare bottom...but im not that sure about it.

I'm setting up a bare bottom tank right now just to see how the water par. are and how they will act without substrate.

barebottoms are easy to clean.....but i think they look dumb and plain

I think fish grow slightly faster in a bare tank also... Just something I have heard.

its all preferance

to me its a great idea, cleaner water = healthier fish

it also makes your filter more effective

I have sand and it's a pain in the @$$ to clean.

in my opinion, fish get used to whatever kinds of conditions people throw at them. I think if you change their conditions too fast, and it might stress out the fish too much.

i would take the gravel out portions everyweek.

i would also like to add that fish kept in bare bottom tanks and fish kept in a planted tank look and act different.
