bare bottom benefits???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
its all a matter of preference. i think bare bottom tanks look nice and sleek. i have a barebottom and siphoning the doo doo is a breeze during water changes. i have drift wood and a few ornaments for my fish and it looks good to me. the bacteria doesnt need substrate. it grows on the filter media and one of my filters is a penguin with bio-wheels so that works well for the bacteria. they might even grow on the driftwood and ornaments but i dont know that for sure.

gravel = more maintainence but nicer
no gravel = less maintainece

Keeping gravel is worth the extra work, if you even want to call vacuum syphoning work.

I've never seen a good looking bare-bottom. Anybody got pics that can change my mind?

I've heard that bare-bottoms stress out fish when the lights are on. The lights reflect off the glass and scares them. You might want to paint the under side with flat black paint to reduce some of the reflection.
