Bare Bottom Tanks?

How about tiles as a substrate? I remember seeing a thread a while ago that had pics of bichirs in a 180g that had tiles on the bottom. Looked way nicer than bare glass and would be just as easy to clean.
I'm thinking about it for my new 600L tank.
