I feel compelled to tear your post apart.

I think bare bottom tanks look great! I myself prefer my sand and driftwood, but just because someone may go bare bottom for ease of maintenance doesn't mean they're any less of an aquarist than you or I. I don't enjoy the weekly maint my tank needs, but I do it because I just flat out have to.

If someone claims to truly enjoy gravel vaccuming, they're either lying to prove a point or just easily amused by tedious tasks. I have an appreciation for maint. because it's part of the culture... it's just not fun.

On top of that, it's natural for human beings to make things easier for themselves.

You seem to be one of those "There's an easy answer for everything types". Here's my easy answer for you: "Don't tell me you're annoyed by bare bottom tanks; then go to a different forum."

Yeah... so?

Personal preference is mind boggling to you? Seriously... are you communist/fascists? Since when is replicating nature the 'goal' of this hobby? That may be your goal Il Duche, but most design their tanks with aesthetics as well as functionality.

I just finished checking.... didn't find any glass walls either.

Good bare bottoms have nothing to do with LFS tanks...a barebottom can have slabs of stone, driftwood, etc...I prefer my barebottoms than many a gravel endowed tank full of **** and gunk..:)

got all the decorations myself, just no substrate in one tank!! rocks, plants, wood...

Nevertheless, such a tank, as are all of mine is called a "barebottom"..:)

very new - if I started over I would do slabs...finding it very hard to get good vac done (load of tufa rock on coral)

edit : and I have a wee 180L !

Sorry, I was just curious if there were specific benefits to the bare tank, not start a war. If everyone liked the same thing this would get very boring and we would all keep one type of fish. It was not meant as an insult to those who keep them and to attack the ones who do is just small minded. I personally don't like the look as much, but there not my tanks and it does allow me to enjoy your fish without alot of distractions. So to each his own, and once again my apologies to anyone who felt slighted by my post.

Well,
I have both.

I have a tendency to keep the barebottoms cleaner since the detritus is more visible.

So...my fish are probably better off in the bare bottoms, but it's not my favorite.

I would have all aquascaped tanks if I had the time to decorate...

No worries here on my end. One of the gr8 things about MFK is that we can have an exchange of ideas and respect each others fish keeping styles.

The issue you raised by opening this thread is a tottally appropriate one and has everything to do with our hobby and the ways we approach it.Sme guys are more heated in debates than others, only that....:)
