I haven't found too much about this particular subject about goonch cats by search, have any of the goonch keepers on here experienced a "never trust a catfish" scenario with them?

As in eating a tankmate you didn't think could be eaten, I want to get a good idea about how big of a fish one can get down because I'm thinking of adding a Thai rutlius to my stock or a Lica if one pops up. My other fish are mainly bichir which is who I'm worried about since they'll be sharing the same area w/ the devil. If Wes has the Thai on his next shipment I'll be getting one, hopefully 5-6 inches and I know they grow SLOW, so I'm hoping the bichirs will be around the same rate.

Thanks for the help guys, can't wait to have this devil roaming around my bichirs

generally not really ime it's more them being territorial and killing things altough this wasn't the case with my first goonch from the same batch as my second one the only two fish my goonch ate were a 8" pinima pbass that was pretty fat and the other I can't recall the goonch was ~20" imo their mouths can't open as wide as most other giant cats like rtc or a wells hope this answers your question

That is the exact kind of info I'm looking for, thanks man! I shouldn't have to worry about my bichirs then if they are about the same size. From what I've learned they prefer the faster flowing areas of the tank, and the bichirs prefer the slack so hopefully there won't be any territorial issues.

I'm hoping my red hi fin wolf doesn't become too interested though haha it shouldn't, as he only messes with really active fish and I don't think the goonch will grab his attention really.

Had a 18" b.bagarius eat a 10" b.bagarius it lived with for over a year like a snack :)

I'd be worried about the shape of the bichirs being conducive to getting slurped up like a spaghetti noodle eventually. If they were shaped like silver dollars then I wouldn't worry about it. Predatory catfish are completely untrustworthy with other fish.

what's the locality of the bagarius? I every locality has it's own attitude....IMO
Mine is from borneo (30cm) and is now living peacefully with 15cm-30cm bichirs, and wallago.....:D

Im hoping for a Borneo but may get a Thai, I will be keeping only my more beefy bichirs with it when it grows larger if that makes a difference. A pair of Ornates, a Black Volta Endlicheri, and hoping to find a similarly sized sp. Dabola or Nile bichir.

By the time i get my goonch, ideally all of my bichirs will be longer then him when i get him so they will always be slightly ahead of him in size. Im hoping to have him within a month or so and the smallest of my bichirs will be 5-6 inches, the largest will probably be around 9 at that point. I know i will have to seperate my palmas complex species (by the time i get my order from jurassic next week ill have all 3 :) ) within a year or 2. Along with the red hi fin wolf.

Also ive heard of issues acclimating them, what do you guys think is the best way? just float em? like i should have done with my tatf :\ lol. Ill be trying to get one in the 4-6 inch range. Im not going to risk any of my bichirs with goonch that may eat em so ill be keeping a close eye on growth and mouth size. As far as being territorial goes, what do you think would be a good setup so the goonch doesnt attack the bichirs? I know they like flat smooth rocks and i was going to spread the batch i picked up on the shore of Lake Erie when i got him.

Anybody w/ some tips on acclimation/tank setup?

Based on your profile, bigger tank would be the first thing. I would do that before I get anything like this.

Wow totally forgot to include my build, the 70 is NOT for life, ive already begun putting the materials together for an at least 200 ga diy, planning the dimens to be 6x2.5x2.5. This will be my monster tank until i move out and can build something around 1000 ga in my own home. The 70 will be fine for a growout, ive already gathered that much.

200 should be done by spring, then itll be a good home for all my fish until i move out. Already have a trailer in mind for that and the owner doesnt care about me building a huge tank (maybe because hes my uncle lol). So dont worry about me trying to have my fish live in a damn 70 for life, im not a scumbag haha

Ive become way too casual about swearing, gotta quit that haha im not trying to be mean or condescending.
