Yeah just soak it. I know there are a lot of opinions here but I have collected lots of wood from around me. I have tried with and without bark. It's true that it will eventually rot and fall apart in your tank (over months), but unless you are using a tree with toxic bark it will not hurt your fish. It will just make the tank a little dirtier a little faster. No real issues. Whether you take it off now or it falls off later, you won't have it eventually. You can either spend the time taking it off now or spend the time siphoning your tank a little more often. That's the real decision.
