was at the LFS and i saw this small fish in its own 30 long tank, and sure enough above it said barracuda. Anyone have one? curiousity struck me and was wondering if theyare a hard species to keep or what. The guy said that when they feed it, it's amazing how fast the little SOB is. Im thinking when i get my own place here in a few years, maybe getting one of those in like a 120. just looking for some info on them. if you have one, pics would be great, kinda wanna see one bigger than the one they had there (3 inch's). Also heard they grow slow, is this true?
Thanks

It would be awesome to have a Barracuda, but they reach sizes that are very tough to keep.

just the name barrcuda makes me think a 120 would be too small

The problem is the turnaround width. I don't think Barracuda are very flexible, you would need a VERY wide tank to accomodate one adult.

yeah, the guy at the LFS said it would grow to 4 foot...so yeah it will need an upgrade after awhile

better get a lake ready

Exactly. If its a common barracuda and not some wierd exotic thing it will get alot bigger then 4 foot. More like 8, and they are def not reef fish other then to snatch food and would need a huge basically empty tank.

Are we sure that this is not a FW cuda? What color were the fins?

i would say they need huge tanks, like....around 15000 or more, just becuase they are really active fish, and get huge, 120 is even to small for a baby...
