I had to take care of some business downtown and I was done early so I took a stroll through Chinatown and in one of the little produce /seafood markets there was a large tank full of tilapia and to my suprise Barramundi. These tanks are unheated but well aerated and there were about thirty barras crammed in with the tilapia.I would like to purchase one as a project to see if I could save it and get it healthy. They were pretty cheap, about six or eight bucks.Bring on the comments and suggestions.

I think your biggest problem would be getting them to sell it too you live..
Nah,dont they'd care as long as the fish are bought. My problem would be comunicating to them that I want the fish captured delicately as they are used to just netting them out and slamming them around.I would have to bring my own bags or a bucket, they dont seem to have the type of plastic bags that I would need for transport.

What the heck.... do it if you got the space.

bring a rolling cooler

Hey if they are here then they are probably in the markets in your area.

Have a quarentine tank ready. You'll need to quarintine the fish to get it healthy(most of market barra are in bad shape), and dose it with salt, also wouldn't hurt to eventually maybe give something for internal parasites just to make sure.

Other than that yeah bring bags or a roll around cooler. Even if you bring bags they don't usually give you much water for in the bag. Roll around cooler is a better idea IMO as you can probably fill it with good water before going and just open the lid and try to communicate you want them live put into your cooler. Communicating that you want to take it live and not to eat will be hard but it's been done before.

Heck maybe look up the chinese characters for "I want live sea perch for my aquarium" and write them down.. lol
