I bought a house 3 months ago that has a "bonus space" under the house. It's currently a 11 x 13 room that was dug out next to the utility area and sheet rocked over new block retaining walls. I plan to install a basement window and enlarge the room but the current floating wood floor will not support the weight of tanks. I'd also like to drop the floor level a few inches as I am rather tall.
I'd like to remove the half-assed floor and poor a concrete floor of which I have experience doing. What I haven't done before is the in floor drain. The floor of the basement is lower then the main septic line hookup to the city. Can I do a dry sump style drain box? Dig down about 3 feet around and 3-5 feet deep put in a perforated catch tank and surround it by large rock to drain any water that might hit the floor down there? I live on above the water table in a dry region so I'm not concerned about ground water coming UP into the basement.
I'll be consulting with some local experts/family but was wondering if any of you guys had experience with this.
