Very cool!!:headbang2

Lee love your site, all your tanks look great. Your setups are insirational, Iv been admiring them for some time. Wondering if there are any plant varieties I can use in my central tank. I have harwegi, zonatus, bicourti, and a few other vieja/paratheraps. The hartwegi and zonatus frequently attempt to eat algie from rocks, and have eaten some swords potted in my tank. Any suggestions for plants that can survive these guys, thanks

Thanks for the feedback. :)

Tank looks great! What size tank is that?

What kind of fish are the yellowish orange ones with black stripe?

They are Archocentrus multispinosus (Rainbow cichlids). Great little fish for beginners and intermediates, non aggressive and easy to spawn.

Difficult one really as most of those fish love snacking on the green stuff. Try hornwort, these can be used as a floating plant and don't need a vast amount of light to flourish. They are also found extensively in many Mexican and CA waterways, so will be biotope correct for some habitats. Position branches from the bottom so that they almost penetrate the water surface and tangle the hornwort to stop it floating around the tank.

I'm using hornwort as part of a Lake peten river bank biotope, as some parts of the banks and shore lines are reported to have meadows of the stuff growing.

Lee.

The Rainbow cichlid pair seem to approve of their new tank. :D

Nutty, this is a very informative and useful thread. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills with us. I love both the display and your choice of stock. Rainbows are one of my favorite small cichlids. I plan on creating a planted tank for some Apistos pretty soon. I had some thoughts on how to accomplish this but this thread has given me some very clear pointers. Thanks again for the useful thread.
