It was a spotted bass. He lives in my pond now. Maybe in a couple years I'll catch him out of there

Fair enough. I'll admit that even with enhancement it's not the best.

The marker to tell largemouth bass apart from all others is the size of the mouth. On a true largemouth bass, when viewed from the side, the mouth extends past the eyes. No other member of the black bass family has this characteristic.

Juvenile spotted bass usually have an orange tail. Although, I suppose it's possible that he was washed out in the picture and it's not visible.
