bass

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ok well feed him eath worms i would stuff it with pellets too so he gets use to the tase and it helps him get fatter and heathier :)

u should feed him whatever he eats in the wild. stay away from anything that is not alive. bass strike at any shiny thing the moves quickly. very hard to teach to eat inanimate food. i used wild caught crayfish, frog, lizards, small mice, baby birds, extra large insects, store bought night crawlers, gold fish, and any small fish i caught while on fishing trips.

LMB are very lazy and will lie in wait for food if it is plentiful. i kept live food in tank with Freddie(my large mouth bass 15" 4lbs) he only ate what he wanted and left the rest alone. he lived in a 90 gal grow tank till i put him back in the lake that i caught him.

I dont see why a LMB would require anything different than any other predatory fish. Then again, I am a firm believer that if you keep a predatory fish it is a crying shame to force it to eat inanimate foods. how would you like to be forced to eat TV dinners every meal for the rest of your life!!!???

oh yeah they need lots of cover as they are very shy and extremely careful/wary of people. after while they will get used to you and come out to look at you, almost study you. you can kinda see intelligence in their eyes.

Well the water is kind of murky so I'm in the process of getting it a little clearer so I can see better. Today I saw him swimming at the top for a little. It has a little fountain in the middle of the kettle I think he was checking out the water falling. I think he should have a good amount of cover the bottom is covered with branches. I stocked him up with about 12 shrimp, 2 small crawfish and a couple shiners I caught from the pond I got him out of. Hopefully he will munch on that for a while. How often should I stock the kettle with food?

how fast do you want him to grow? he will regulate his feeding on his own. but at least once a day put live food in there to keep him active and feeding and happy!

murky water is not what i ment as far as cover. LMB need fresh clean well oxygenated water they are big beefy fish. poor water quality is never considered "good cover". this container needs a good filter system no matter what type of water is dripping into it.

does anybody else think that a metal water container is a bad choice for a fish to live in?

do you have any pics? The local fish store here sells "tuffys" they're cheap and my Oscar used to love them
