batfish??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You are partially right...although it probably isnt what most hobbyists think of when they think "batfish", it is from the family battidae...at least I believe so. Maybe someone more familar with these fish would second my guess.

Yes, but not the "Batfish" that most people in marine aquaria think of haha. This one is from the Ogcocephalidae family, where the batfish that most people would think of are from the Ephippidae family. Like this one

Oh but I'm pretty sure this particular batfish is mislabled genus wise on Liveaquaria... but could be wrong

Yea, the batfish are interesting...I have always wanted one, but I think they do best in species tanks.

The pinnate batfish is completely black and has an orange border to it almost. Super cool fish.

a buddy of mine has a saltwater setup and i was gonna give it to him but i wasnt sure on the laws of taking this fish and since i wasnt positive on its id i didnt wanna take any chances...i catch them pretty often so thats why i wanted to make sure of it id so next time i know if i can keep it or not.

longnose batfish i think

they're pretty expensive, and somewhat rare, mostly due to little demand

they're very similar to frogfish care/behavior-wise

liveaquaria has some colorful ones that look like freddy krueger as a fish
