I will be moving soon and am thinking of how I am going to setup my new fish room. If I keep the room rather small (12'x12' or so) would I benefit by adding a few cheap bathroom exhaust fans or not? I figured I could turn them on every few hours to get the stale air out of the room. I will also have a large dehumidifier in the room. I also thought about an air exchanger but am not too sure about them yet. Thoughts/ has anybody tried this?

An air exchanger will be best but is certainly not the cheapest. The cheaper alternative is to use the exhaust fan during the warmer months and the dehumidifier during the colder months. The dehumidifier will heat up the room by about ten degrees (depending on how much you run it). You wouldn't want to run the fan during the winter obviously, and you wouldn't want to heat the room in the summer.

It would help a great deal. I reccomend it. Especially for humidity. Try hooking it up to come on every couple hours and set your dehumidifier so it only comes on if the humidity spikes (Closed door or particularly bad circulation)

I'm currently working on an installation for a 240G tank in my basement. I just finished installing an exhaust system that will take air from the top of the tank/canopy area above the lights and feed it into my cold air return duct. During the heating months, which are plenty in Canada, this will increase the efficiency of my furnace and in the summer months I will run a dehumidifier in the furnace room. Another side benefit is increased bulb life for your lighting system as you will keep them running a bit cooler.

I have plenty of pics of how I did my setup if you are interested. Send me a PM. I am planning on journaling my whole installation and setup process soon.
