Batteling Hexamita in my CA cichlids. Any suggestions?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So the fish decided they are done with the Hex Shield treatment. They nibbled it last night and stayed away from it this morning. I added some flakes to make sure they had an appetite and they accepted those greedily. I don't see anymore white feces and out of some I have seen some colored feces so that is a good sign. I hope we are out of the woods. I did treat the tank with Epsome salts after doing 90% water change last night.

So how many days of eating the hex food?

1 feeding Friday
2x Sat, Sun, Mon
1x Tuesday morning. They didn't eat much at all Tuesday night.

So I would count it as 3 full days and two half days.

Ok, that's good. Hopefully that does the trick! I would personally hold off feeding anything for the next 24 hrs, and give their innards a rest. Then feed sparingly for the next few days & cross your fingers that everything goes back to normal.

Thanks RD will do.

So how did things turn out? Are they all back to eating, and otherwise acting normal?

I am unsure. They are all acting normal but I am still getting white feces mixed in with colored feces. from two fish. they are eating and acting normal. Part of me wants to jsut remove them from the tank so nobody else gets infected.

Before you remove them, perhaps try another round (3-4 days) of Hex-Shield. I had to treat my clown loaches twice, and that seemed to wipe the last of the IP's out.

I put some hex shield in this morning. I will try again tonight. Everyone in the tank is fat and acting happy. Its just the white feces. I will have to get some pics this weekend.
