we just had a statewide blackout last night. depending what area of the island you were on, you went anywhere from 12-22 hours without power. those that didnt have battery backups or generators lost lots of fish. ive already heard of 3 cases that lost EVERYTHING.

maske sure youre ready in case of an emergency. you may think you wont need/ use it. but better safe then sorry.

I had to go through hurricane Ike with no backup, we lost like 4 guppies and that was about it...

My reef didn't do as good, lost 2 of my 3 corals, 3rd one died few weeks after.

It was 7 days without power i think.

i wish i lost some cheap guppy's, that wouldnt be so bad

Ya, i got lucky, we had to many guppies anyways... they breed like rabbits.

:grinno:

im slowly but surely starting to also get my fish room better equiped for no power.

I always have battery operated airpumps. Stick a tubing to the airpump and stick the other end on a box with a sponge in it. Tada! Temporary sponge filter saves the day. Er...I live in the tropics so those without heating will need a generator for their heaters.:D It doesn't hurt to cover the tanks with blankets though to regulate the temp.

We do not have to cope a lot with power outages in Europe. But day before yesterday we had one for 4 hours...I was stressed as hell!!!

Surprisingly I haven't had any blackouts in the last 15+years (knock on wood). We actually have a pretty decent ice storm going rite now too. I even hit a stop sign on my way home, lol. I guess Wisconsin must have better power stations or something. Good luck to all that do have frequent power outages.

agreed. I live in NH southern usa. And a couple weeks ago we had state wide black outs. I personally diddn't have power for 8 day's. ANd other people i know lost it for longer. Generators are easy to come buy in general. But when every one is calling there power company and they say atleast a week for power they are not so easy to come by. I had my brother buy one in ny and meet me half way which is about 3 hours half way cuzz no where in the state you could get one. Do you'r self and you'r fish a favor and get one. Good luck.

15.00 at wal-mart for a battery operated bait well airator... no home should be without them
