Battle Catfish!!! What is it?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just plunked him in the big tank. Too bad the batteries are dead on the camera, I'll have to wait for an appearance to take a picture. I'm sure food time will draw him out from the eating habits I've been reading about. I can see him being a great tankmate. He immediately got pinched by a red claw shrimp for being too close and moved instead of eating it, didn't kill the baby yoyo loach that could have been inhaled, and was checked out and left alone by the previous monster (and bully) of the tank, a 7" lace cat.

He should be really happy. This is a big semi-Walstad style natural plant tank, so the bottom is nice and mucky, the hiding places are many, and the oportunities for food on the bottom are excellent. Building a bigger one later should be alot of fun, this has been the easiest, lowest maintenance, most aesthelically pleasing (after about 3 months anyway) way to set up a tank I've ever tried.

yeah i have a 26" niger and it's the least aggressive bigger fish i've ever seen. i have him trained to not eat anything unless it's out from between my fingers. it's really weird to be able to put in a few dozen feeder goldfish (back when i used to feed with them) and just have them swim around forever untill i grab one by the tail.

We have one in the 750gal and its about 3ft he has been there for a long time and he is a really cool fish.He doesnt move much in the daylight

Well it's been a couple of days, and I'd say that this guy should be very happy here until he gets bigger. I haven't seen him at all after the first night, but he is noticable in effect. The rear part of the tank has a variety of well hidden holes and caves amoung the roots of the plants, so I never used to see any of the cats during the day. Now one of the lace cats has relocated to the front of the tank under a big anubias plant, and the plecos have become much more active during the day. Obviously the ripsaw cat has found a favored hiding place and kicked everyone else out

by far best monster who won't clear out your community tank. got mine when he was about 5", i saw him when i was cleaning out the tank and i believe he's 10" easy possibly and to 12"!! mine loves massivore delight pellets!! and the accasional algea wafer. mine only comes out when it's dark not much daylight movement...except maybe when i'm not there:swear:.... but he's still awesome
