im getting an AquaClear 70 in a few days to replace my cheap whisper filter. how could i get beneficial bacteria onto the new filter?

Best bet is to run both filters on your tank for a month or two.

With you whisper being a poorly designed bio filter, your tank most likely has alot of BB growing on surface areas in the tank. When you get the new Ac70 take the bag that the BioMax will go into and mix in as much of your tanks gravel as you can with the biomax, this will help seed the biomax. I would still just keep running both filters though.

oh, get the white cartridge and squeeze everything in the tank, that would get all the good stuff on the new filter.
and stir up the gravel a bit, although you might get a nitrate bomb.

ans then scrub the walls and the heater, piping etc.

Patience ;)

Like the guys have said, just plug it in and let it run. I wouldn't mess with your existing filter - it's not a great filter, but it's keeping your fish alive right now. Stiring up a bit of crud from the gravel and letting the new filter suck it up will help seed it a bit quicker. But there are allways a few stray bacteria floating around in the environment just looking for a new home. A new bare filter is the ideal environment they are looking for, some will find their way in there and start multiplying. After a few weeks the filter will be cycled and everyone will be happy.

alrite. one of the biggest problems is when i replace the filter bag on my topfin filter (the existing filter) a bunch of debree and gunk flows out and spreads into the tank. will this happen with the ac70? how does it work ive searched youtube and other sites and i cant find out?
