I have three Ac110s on different tanks. This is what I do;
Every week, after turning off filter I pull the bag of BioMax and rinse with tank water to preserve the BB. I pull the sponge and rinse clean with hot tap water to remove all waste particles. Put back together restart and there is never anything flowing back into the tank.
Once every month during the above cleaning I siphon all water and debree that collects at the bottom of the filter out.
About every 2-3 months the filter gets a thurough cleaning and inspection.
