BD Pair & Pups

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
1st batch was born and the father bit their tails off before the pups were taken out of the tank. They were born at night.

2nd batch was born during the day and owner was able to put them in a floating container. Now they are in a 90 gallon tank to grow out.

I do love the big spots as well! Takes after the father.

This female needs a break from breeding mike. Lots of batches in not lots of time can kill your breeder females

Matt, thanks for the advice. I will let the owner know to perhaps give her a break. 2 straight batches of pups in a row already so perhaps she needs a breather. Problem is he doesn't have another tank to "rest" her in.

He may have to put a divider up, even if it just separates her for a couple of weeks. It's better than nothing

I was over and she has a few scars on her, mainly on her disc. She might have been bred again. I think we will wait two weeks to see if she is left alone, aka male has done his job again. If he continues to harm her, I might have to keep the female in my tank for a few weeks to let her rest up a bit.

It's really easy to make a divider and pull it when he's ready to breed. Infact I think that's the best way to breed that way both rays are settled

I went to visit my friend who I sold my old pair of Black Diamonds to. They have now successfully produced 4 BD pups since. The first two are around 8-9 inches now and were just transferred into the same tank as their parents. The latest pair were born 1 month ago. They are stable and already eating pellets. He believes the female may have been bred again!

Here are some updated pics.
