Be careful raw shrimp

Many store bought shrimp are raised in crowded fresh water ponds. These can be harbingers of bacteria and other parasites that can harm our fish. Cooking them first, eliminates this variable.

Most of the market prawn have a preservative to keep the color of the prawn. I always look for the frozen prawn with salt as a preservative. Also any fish should not be overfeed. Ideally every other day feeding would be better. Good Luck.

i use a blender with raw shrimp, spinach, spirulina, sum beef heart or earth worms... use an ice tray to form blocks.. whammo!! premium food with low low cost. :)

I would guess that the stress of the move + change of diet (lots of protein) + feeding too much likely caused bloat / digestive blockage. Not a perfect metaphor but imagine changing the diet of a person who had eaten primarily baby food to steak. And all you fed them was steak. As much steak as you could force them to eat.

Add to that the scrunched together bodies / organs of many flowerhorn types and it's a recipie for what happened.

I've never had a problem feeding either raw or shell-on shrimp to cichlids (that can handle the protein) as part of a primarily pellet diet. You really need to watch water quality, though, as shrimp can be messy.

Feeding raw shrimp with shell on is fine, as long as you remove the tail spike.

Iv fed raw shrimp to almost every fish iv ever owned, and never had an issue.

Market shrimp is the only thing my Tire Track Eel will eat. I never allow the shrimp to thaw until it's being used and I always shell my shrimp before use. No problems yet.
