i often clean the inside and outside of my tanks with a razorblade and last night i screwed up big time. i wasnt being careful and accidentally made a few small incisions in the silicone lining. oops. water was slowly leaking from the cuts, so i quickly got some silicone and put a few big gobs in the leak. it is OK now but last night i was freaking out. Now i got some big ugly gobs of silicone on my tank. at least it was only a 30 gallon and not my 90. :hitting: :wall: :nutkick:

I don't know if you guys know this already...... at homedepot type stores., they sell this scrapping blade thingee to clean ceramic tiles, it's basically a super size razor blade with a nice handle that you would use clean ceramic tiles.... ofcourse you can use it to clean glass tanks too.

I never used this, but I have no doubt this will make it easier and safer for those that use razor blades to clean tanks.

Also, never run with a handful of razorblades, and don't put them in your mouth. Or ears.

buy yourself a multi tool they'll save you a lot of headaches i have a pro cleaner that a fixed rod at least 24" long with interchangeable cleaning pads for algae including a glass scraper that won't cut thru silicone and keeps your mitts out of the tank.

i also have another one with grippers and snippers for my plants also good .

I still dont get why you use a razorblade? How do you clean with that? Sorry im having trouble picturing that in my head. I use a discarded credit card to clean my tanks, and it does a fine job.

Leaks, silicone gobs, sure, that's bad. But, even if the blades don't cause leaks, they will scratch the glass walls of the tank. go natural, hire plecos.

plecos poop so much though. mine is pretty hardy though. i've had him since forever, and he went through alot. he got switched through so many tanks, and ended up back with me with a cloudy eye lol...

I just use a magnet algae remover, works great, no scratches, no leaks, no missing digits.
