I recently purchased a couple of dither fish from my LFS and about a week later, my tank was infested w/ ich!! :irked:

I know there are LFS that take great care of their fish but in general, BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN PURCHASING FISH FROM YOUR LFS or simply only buy from other hobbyists.

yeah, I have an excellent LFS near me, but I still QTa ny fish - - or plants - - that I get from them . . .

on the other hand, I've bought fish on-line several times, and never had a problem . . . go figure

agree 100% but feel fortunate that all that was introduced was ich...far worse stuff out there that is much harder to get rid of (like camallanus)

My very possibly incorrect theory: The fish that the guy at the LFS nets first are usually the weaker ones, so always be picky and tell them which ones you want :D
Doesn't mean that they're bad, but they're not the best ones you can get for what you're paying

That was sort of off topic to the post, but on topic to the thread title :P

^^^ I agree.
If you are adding fish to an established tank, you should definitely quarantine.
I agree but don't always do this.

I agree, i have a long standing relationship with the lfs by my house, but any where else i go i have to be extremely picky

All the fish look 100% healthy at my LFS. I know they never are. Every time I take one home there is an explosion of ich all over them. Its strange, Its like the ich is dormant in their skin then explodes in good water conditions, then falls off 24hs later and die from the salt bath and heat treatment I do. Its odd, but always quarentine unless you dont mind risking getting your stock covered in parasites. LFS has never given me anything other than ich though, which is moderately good I guess.

you know what always surprises me, is that when I bring a fish to my LFS - - as a trade-in, for example - - they always put my fish right into their tanks, with no QT process at all

now, I know I take good care of my fish (best I can anyway), but this just freaks me out (!)

well they cant really qt every fish they get in. they just take the chance. i mean if somethin happens all they do is store use the treatment.
