This is an amazing site for questions and concerns. What I find puzzling is people who think its cool to own a monster fish. I own a monster, 20+ year old 31" ID. Yes it's cool but it is a major responsibility. I have been reading postings of people asking questions, they ignore the comments of experienced people, then go ahead and get whatever fish they were asking about. Then they get rid of it, or they die. Please be fair to the fish you are about to bring into your life. It's their life you are buying, not just the thrill of owning a monster and showing it off. Caring for fish is not just a physical act, its a responsibility. I applaud the members who have accepted this fact, by provide all necessary care for their fish, and for trying to make others realize just what is really involved. Monster fish needs monster amounts of care, feeding, living space and they live a very long time.

I totally agree. So many people don't give fish the respect they need. You wouldn't get an enormous dog and put it in a small cage but you'll put a RTC in a 20G tank?

Makes me really annoyed.

ahhah i know what you mean man pics of the id

Totally agreed and I think this post should be made in every subforum on this site. I also think that the forum should have a minimum age limit to enter.

why? age has nothing to do with fish keeping. its the responcibilty not age
i agree too.

I think this site can be a good tool for a young aquarist so that they learn responsible fish keeping. However, a lot of people on this site are poseurs and think they know everything (often teenagers- no offense). Part of being responsible in this hobby, and especially on this site, is to help educate each other and the younger gerneration that is just getting started. If the site is going to be sterilized by the mods so it is "safe" for the tender young minds, then... yeah, minimum age limit. I don't think that is necessary though. A disclaimer, a modicum of self-control, and the rest is the parents' problem. ANYWAY, bottom line is monster fish need truly monster tanks, and we need to help each other and esp the teens learn the responsible way.

I completely agree with that. I unfortunately (or fortunately depends on how you look at it) did not have the internet when I was their age and younger. I spent most of my time at the library or fish club meetings learning from others and taking their advice. However when some kid comes on here asking for advice on a certain species and several experienced advanced aquarists give them great advice and they go against it. It really irritates me and many others that I have talked to when they make a post the following week that the fish died for whatever reason. Normally they blame everything else other than their own mistake. I don't think we have to worry too much though.... school is about to start and we can go back to enjoying this forum until next summer.
