I'm debating removing all filter pads from my 2 xp3's and leaving them FULL of ceramic media in order to increase the time I can go between cleanings, but I'm not sure if that would be a good thing to do or not.

I wouldn`t.
Your just not going to get any real benefit from it.
Whatever is getting trapped in your pads is going to get trapped in the ceramic media.
The pads are way easier to clean.
 
Yeah thats kind of what I was thinking. The only reasoning I had is that the ceramic might not clog up like a pad does. I'll probably just leave the bottom trays as they are...1/2 fluval pre-filter media and 1/2 20 & 30ppi pads. The next thing to do with filters anyways is replace all the pot scrubbies in one of my xp3's with ceramics. Not a huge priority, but its something I want done at some point.
