dont DIY's usually cost as much as buying a new one ?

No way! Building it your self saves a lot of cash, if you have all the tools to do the job.Plus you can get creative, and make it out of better materials.I spent under $100 on my last one, minus the lighting, and it was made out of oak ply and oak trim (oak is expensive).

I would charge no less than a $100 to build a nice sized one.So you take that plus the materials and your at $200,ouch! I'd rather build it myself.:headbang2

I also design mine to look like pieces of furniture.

DIY means Do it yourself, even with the lighting system it will still be far less than any stock tank/vivarium.

Lighting only cost me $40 more.

And the starting at price of $100+ more that I would charge to make one is dirt cheap.A company or someone else would charge you way more than that, try $300,plus materials to build it the way I do.

And I agree,a 40gal breeder w/top,stand and lighting would cost you around $300.You can build your self a bearded dragon fortress for far less.

I built the cabinet in the first pic below, and it only cost me less than $250 for materials. It is a collectables display stand. If I where to inquire about buying one,it would cost me around 800+ delivery, and it would be made out of **** materials. That's what the one pictured at the very bottom cost me 8 years ago, before I became a carpenter.Notice their choice of materials and lack of dimension.

DIY's save a ton of cash.
