bearded dragons

You can actually buy bulk calci-sand if you really want it. It's sold as an additive for chickens at any Fleet Farm or other feed store. Usually runs about $5-10 per 50lb bag. And if you have any concerns about impaction purchase a few flower pot bases and use them as feeding bowls. The Beardeds will quickly figure out what they are for and will eat straight out of them with the food never reaching the substrate.

BTW, since you haven't gotten your Bearded yet I'd recommend purchasing one that's at least 3-4 months old. And if you are going to only get one I definately suggest a male. They live much longer and tend to be far more personable then females.

I am using newspaper right now because I was told not use sand because if the bearded dragon ate any of the sand he would get bloateed and could die. I don't know if that is true maybe ya'll could confirm that.

this stuff is a miracle

they are very sanitary and highly durable AND THERE MACHINE WASHABLE!!! :woot:

best to get afew peices

that was when your gunna change it you through it in the wash and you have another spare on hand.

i dont like cal sand, the only way a beardie would injest that is by accident

and eventually it would be a stadium for bacteria

carpet are good but they use to smell bad whit the time... and they're as best as sand to keep bacteria...

I've been keeping and breeding bearded for the last 5 years and nobody agree on the best substrat to use.... each one as is good and bad...

News paper .... easy to clean, but don't look really good
Carpet... don't look too bad, but get smelly by the time
Sand ... great natural look, but could cause sand impaction

So make your choice knowing what you get in too

By the way bearded are great animal... hope you enjoy yours....
