hey guys
ive had my beardie 5 or 6 inch sandfire for a week today
and he is acting very weird
he only eats about 2 or 3 crix when i offer them everyday
and some days he dosent eat
he spooks alot, running away from me and he normally always bumps his head on the glass
and he eats veggies but only when i rub them on his mouth
i keep handling to a minimum
but when i have to clean his cage i normally put him in a critter keeper with either some crix or some water
but i normally feed him inside the tank
i realy dont handle him any other time
but he is still pooping basically every day
whats his problem?
i no he needs to settle
but the other beardies ive had settled in at the most 3 days before they started to eat like pigs
and i even got those smaller than this one
and today he pooped clear after i fed him squash
wtf??

some take a bit more time to settle. IMO doesnt sound like a parasite.

mine have always been like your others. Not sure whats going on but does he still look good in shape and weight?

the basking side is like 95 and the cool side im not sure
last time i checked it was like 80 something cant remember
il check tonight, ive got a digi thermometer
he also digs and hides underneath the newspaper
wait so jason yours is still like this? how big is he?
because i realy would not like a beardie that dosent like to see me

you feeding too big of crickets? I think basking spot should be around 105 I just brought mine home today and hes a hatchling i put him in his new home and an hour later hes eating up every cricket i set in there.

the range is supposed to be 90-105
egzactly 105 might be to hot for a little baby
even tho they need more heat
but also i got him at an expo
im thinking he was dropped or something

basking spot should be 100-105.....warm side of tank then in the mid to upper 80s. cool side 75-80. night time temps can drop to 75. id still offer it a hot place to go to at night. your guy i think just needs to settle down more. offer more hides so it feels secure. as far as freaking out it could be that after a few days he has nocticed his own reflection?

should i put a heat mat uinderneath the baskingspot?
and i will get a higher watt bulb but i dont think the basking spot is the problem because he dosent use it as normally as he should. he freaks out when i try holding him sometimes
but most of the time he just rises from his position, no puffing or hissing

No I used to breed them but I dont have beards anymore.I just meant the ones I used to have were more normal like your others.I did have one that was jumpy but not too bad,got it as an adult though so who knows how it was treated before. It may just take it longer to get used to you, dont force food in its face too much if you do.That may make him even less happy to see you,I know its frustrating, keep us posted and Ill see what else I can come up with after I get some sleep.
