I have an empty 40 gallon breeder and want to get either a beardie or a bluey which one should i get. I would like something that is simple to feed and i can meet their care requirements. Also which one is more "interactive" thank you!

Get a beardie, you wont regret it.

Beardies are more active, friendly, have better personalities and are simply fun to observe where as blue tongues are the complete opposite.

Here is probably the most accurate and thorough bearded dragon guide on the net-

The only thing i would change to this care guide is the substrate choice, Use natural desert sand, if you cant find that then use any natural sand (do not use silica or calci sand)

The reason this guide suggests using newspaper or recycled paper kitty litter is simply because its cheap but it looks terrible and is not natural or comfortable for reptiles.

It may look like allot of work at first but believe me keeping reptiles is a piece of cake. Ive been keeping reptiles for a little over 5 years now and am finding that keeping fish is actually more complicated and expensive lol.

cheers-

Both are cool both that tank is not big enough for an adult or either species. Yes they can live in it for a year or two but both will prefer a bigger tank. A plwood tank can be built easily for both though. Like said before everything might be complicated at first but keeping reptiles is actually easy once they get settled.

if i need to i will eventually go bigger

beardies suck after youve had a blue tongue skink. they are by far the coolest reptile i have ever worked with. theyre almost affectionate.

Ive never been a fan of Blue tongues myself but its all down to preference, most of you that posted here seem to like em and thats cool.

I see about 2 blue tongue skinks in my back yard a week, occasionally ill even see a pink tongue. Im more of a gecko and lizard lover myself though i do keep broad banded sand swimmers witch are probably my fav skinks.

I disagree completely on suggesting the use of sand. (This is my opinion) Unless you are getting an adult beardie and are going to watch him/her while eating, or feed in a separate container...the danger of impaction is not something to risk. I agree that newspaper is tacky, that's why lots of beardie keepers keep their guys on slate tile. It's decorative, holds in some heat at night, and is easy to clean(you just wipe with a wet cloth). Sand can discolor a beardie's skin, causes more dust, and is a better breeding ground for bacteria. Also, go here for any beardie questions...one of the best places I been to:

I also think that for the personality you get from such a small lizard, and given how easy their care requirements are, I'd go with a beardie every time.
