Wow, I just noticed it was August since I last posted an update on these guys. Things have changed a little with mine since that peaceful looking photo in my post above.

Firstly, I no longer have that planted 180 which they were in. That had to go because of some work we were having done. I replaced it with a 120 and decided to set the 120 up as an unplanted tank.

Obviously I had to downsize my stock too, which I did, but I kept my beardless barbs, amongst others. I got rid of the 180 but before I could set up my 120 all my stock were in a large tote for about a week. One of my beardless barbs died whilst in this tote. It lodged itself in some rocks and musn't have been able to get out, and it perished, which I was gutted about.

When I set up my new 120 my remaining four beardless barbs went in that, along with my clown loach and a couple of others. But their behaviour was completely different, as was my clown loach. They all became extremely skittish in the smaller unplanted tank. Maybe partly down to the smaller footprint, maybe down to lack of plant cover.

Anyway I hated this new tank. Skittish fish just ruin a tank imo, even though, in part, I was to blame for this. So I moved all of them, the clown loach too, into my unplanted 360g Asian com tank. And that is where they currently are. Their behaviour went back to normal, as did my clowns.

This tank looks awesome now. You have the combination of big and little fish, something which has always appealed to me. My beardless barbs are still a tight group and they hang around with a shoal of filament barbs for the most part. And unlike my old 180, which was calm and tranquil, my 360 is more hustle and bustle now, the fish are always on the go. I have literally zero chance now of taking a high clarity close up shot like the one in the post above, any shot of them will be a blur.

No, this tank is now crying out for video updates, something which my limited tech skill set won't allow, lol.

You really need to pull the trigger on the group you've had your eye on, before they go. Oh, and their growth is pretty much still the same, slowwwwww, lol.

Nice. I may email tomorrow to make sure they are still in stock. Its nice to hear that their growth is slower. I don't think they'll reach some of the measurements I've seen online.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for yours?

If I remember rightly they were priced at something like £15 each, but I haggled with the guy and got my five for about £60, so I ended up paying £12 each.

And yes, going off the growth rate i'll be amazed if these guys get anywhere near the max 9" that I've read about. That picture in post #1 is huge compared to my group of 5 inchers.

Wow! If my Googled conversion is correct, that's about $20. The place I'm looking at is $50 or about £38 each for 5 inch fish. ??

Just a quick update on my four remaining beardless barbs. They've been in my 360 now for a couple of months, they're all doing well, but one thing I've noticed since the move back in early December is they finally seem to be putting a bit of size on.

They seem to have grown more in the past two months in the 360 than in all the time they were in their original 180. The one in the picture below is nudging 6" now.

So, if this growth carries on I may well see them reach their max size after all of 7-9" over the next couple of years. james99 james99 , did you pull the trigger on those you found available?

Those red fins really remind me of a tinfoil barb or rainbow shark.

Nah, not yet. With shipping, 4 fish was going to be over $300. I did find another place with cheap shipping, but they are out of stock right now.

That's got to suck, shipping costs always get in the way.

But regarding percentage of shipping fees you're lucky compared to me lol, I was considering buying a $10 chalceus online for my summer 2022 tank until I found out it costs $90 with shipping. Whereas you got nowhere near a 9x price increase with shipping fees.

Edit: Just saw your edit. Good that you found a cheaper place even if out of stock.
