I was at my local fish store last Friday and they had a arowana that out of the blue got mulled by two other aros and a gar. This poor fish got his tail ripped off most of his fins are damaged, there are large wounds on his head and body. When I pointed out what was going on they quickly got him out but was to late and he was pretty messed up. When I questioned what they were going to do with this fish he offered it to me free of charge. I am wondering if he will make a full recovery(fins and all)
To my suprise he is still alive and trying to chase down guppies and krill.
Hes in a 65 gallon tank by him self ( and some guppies) The tank is being treated with Melafix and epsom salt.
Any thoughts or help would be great.

Well that was nice of you to take and give him a home. I would suggest making sure your temps are up higher to help heal the wounds. Maybe try and feed him foods that don't run away as well.

i agree with Brock, Temp up to 86 at least. BUT I WAS ALWAYS TOLD NOT TO USE EPSOM SALT..

post a pic of the aro please..

with this injury, you got to be very patients and know what you are doing in order for it to survive. Temp up, melafix and air stone as well. Also water got to be good or do more water change. Good luck, if the fish is eating then chance of survive is high.

Melafix daily , Water changes weekly 50%, Temp 84 , and hes is eating guppies. (he wont touch krill and I dont think it a good time to try to convert him) I was told epsom salt with help with infection. I will just sit back and wait.

when doing massive water changes, add water in slow, keep light levels down to a minimum... less stress there is, better chances you will have
