i was thinking of getting beef liver, letting it ferment for a few days and then try using that for catfish? good idea? bad idea? has anyone tried it?

Why beef? chicken holds its blood better.

Look in an ethnic market they sell almost every part of an animal.

like i said, only thing around me. we dont have any kind of ethnic market. We have a wegmans, walmart and a parkview. i live in primarily white, primarily conservative portion of ny.

Walmart doesn't have chicken liver? If you are going for catfish, the two things I have seen in my area that work the best are chunks of bluegill and cheese hot dogs. Both are cheap and easily found. Good luck!

cut the beef liver into strips, then put garlic cloves and some fish parts in a sealed jar on the deck for a few days(1.5-2)...then use rubber gloves and cast them out...you may let them dry out alittle to help them stay on the hook...use the gloves cause the stank will stay on your hands a while...or you could just take the liver cut into strips then let it dry out a little not long in both dring cases...just long enough to get a "skin" to hook into...works for me...

ok, i think i just need a mason jar. i think i have garlic cloves laying around.... the more it stinks the better it brings in fish right? im going to the kinzua dam by Warren PA and i hear they have some nice sized channel cats down there!

This is why I am not such a big fan of channel catfish. It is like a bad lab experiment in making bait sometimes. Sounds like it would work and the Garlic would be a good attractant, but what a mess!
