This is why I am not such a big fan of channel catfish. It is like a bad lab experiment in making bait sometimes. Sounds like it would work and the Garlic would be a good attractant, but what a mess!

it is only messy till you dry it out alittle...i have used it in a pinch...i prefure chicken liver made the same way...you can add cream corn to the mix aswell...the combo of garlic and sweet corn make a killer combo...it works well as a paste...the main reason liver is used as it absorbs the flavors and slowly relases them in the water leaving a sent trail...if you don't have a strong current you can to flour tortillas aswell...if you can use more then one rod, have one with the liver and another with a large sucker minow or cut gizzard shad/mooneye...them oily fish work very well also...

how should i fish this? Bobber or right on the bottom? i'm really kind of going blind into this. I just respooled my 6' ugly stick with 12 lb spider wire mono. i don't figure i'll pull in a monster so i feel like that set up should be good however ive heard of 20lbs + being pulled out of there. should i be alright with my set up?

slip sinker on the bottom...current will change the amount of lead you will need to hold the bait in place, but the rig is the same...have your egg sinker threaded on the line, the put a plastic bead to protect the knot...then tie a barrel swivel to the main line...then tie a 1-2' leader line to the hook...the hook is all on you for your prefurence...with a good drag system 12lb test is fine...if you are fishing in a pool of the river bobbers will work aswell...main current go off the bottom...the bottom is the best place to start in all catfish fishing...sometimes they will suspend and then use bobbers...

thanks for all the tips folks! im getting ready to go fishing tomorrow with my cousin in the Alleghany river Resevoir, hopefully followed by a trip down to the Kinzua Dam area. from what i've heard and read there is actually some pretty big Channel cats in the area you just have to get into the right spot.

you should look to the deep hole as it is still to cold for them to be real active yet...one time you should go there and pull an all nighter...pick the hotest most humid night in june/july and you will get some monsters...gl this time, but don't expect high numbers this trip due to the time of year...

i went for a few hours today and we fished probably 20-30 feet water with 0 bites, i had been reading the fishing reports and they said there hasnt been any cats taken so far.

this time of year is tough to get cats...if the rivers average depth is 20ft then you need to find the 40-60ft holes as they go there for the winter...you should get more if you good in the warmer water temps of summer...

all that trouble with liver? i just use it straight out of the box or w/e it comes in and it works fine but does the garlic make it any better?

i use both forms...alot depends on my ambition...if i go to a presured water way then i take the garlic stuff...if not i may just use the regular stuff...if it is a spur of the moment deal the the reg. stuff...
