Beefheart.

You will save alot of money to just buy it from the market. You can cut it up and put some in the freezer. You can also cut it into the size you want. The should both have the same nutritional value. One heart goes a long way. The Doctor.

that's what I was thinking. I'm probably gonna mince it real fine, and mix in some cichlid pellets. should be great treats for my growing O.

also, I see beef tounge from time to time. I'm sure that is an extremely lean cut of meat, just like the heart.

anyone know if you can feed that to cichlids as well?

Have used beef heart from Publix many times. It's less than two dollars a pound. Trim the excess fat, run it thru a processor, cut into smaller pieces before doing so, and freeze what you don't immediately need. Fish will go crazy for it.

less than $2.00/lb? prepackaged stuff is like 30 times more expensive!!

I just go to the bucher and get a beefheart, give it to him and tell him to trim all the white stuff out and then double grind it. When you get home just portion it out and freeze it...I freeze it in flat pattys that I shave strips off of to feed with...works like a champ...

The fish like beef liver from what I used to use in past aquariums, my fish in my new tank are too small for it still. Very cheap someone mentioned $3.00 per lb. I think much cheaper than that. Chicken liver is also available.

Exactly why I don't buy most food at the LFS.

What I do when I grind it up is to put the ground heart in a ice cube tray. You can adjust the size by how much you fill it up. Cover with plastic wrap, pop out after freezing and put it in a ziploc and leave in freezer. You can either use the whole cube or break it into pieces. Just make sure it's an extra tray or one you don't use otherwise your wife/girlfriend isn't going to be too happy. The Doctor.
