most say no for the reason that they are messy and more water dilutes. And, they can get to be 18" which wouldn't leave much turning room. From what I've read most don't get that big in captivity. I'm considering keeping mine in a 90g for life and installing a drip system so he's constantly getting a supply of fresh water.
