They will need a massive tank eventually. Mine is in a 1500 gal cylinder and it still dashes around when it feels/get spooked. From me exp they need to most room u can give them and i can teatify that the best shape tank u can put them in is a round shaped one. When i added him i had to do some moving around of the dw and of course he got upset and did the crashing thing and when it did it got deflected off to the side instead of a big head on bang that we get used to seeing and hearing. This type of fish dose like some water movement as well. When it was in the 600 gal it would cruis in position against the current. I ran a w60 and had it at half speed now im using the same one aimed along the side of the tank to create a flow that wraps around the tank. I have it running at full speed now something like 5k gals hr +/-. It turns off an nite time and dosent turn bk on til late morning so the fish can relax and eat in peace. As well as helping move the debris/waste towards the intakes if the filters.

I think the risk of these guys bashing themselves silly is always there. I’ve posted about that guy in Thailand that had 3 large Gatf ranging from 34-38in or so. The smallest one just killed itself by ramming the side of the tank. Got spoke somehow and it did this in a 32,000g tank. His tank/pond is rectangular though and not round.

Thats why i did a round tank. I did what i learned from other pelagic fish that swim consistently and can dart around. Again its not the majic pill but hopefully it will allow me to keep him as long as possible!
