Yeah. They don't seem to be fussy eithers and with a mouth like that I see them gobbling up a tank mate or two. Right now they are in with some blochiis, pims, and giant danios. Are they slow or fast growers? Does 8" sound about right for adult size?

8" sounds bit on large size, probably more like 6", not saying they wont get to 8" but would be a massive specimen. :) Keep us posted on its progress ;)

Interested in any updates you have with this fella,

I've recently got one (Thanks Jay ;) ) And have noticed he seems to be an escape artist and wondered if anyone else has had this issue?

While drip acclimating him for his new tank I had him in a styro box which was about 12" deep and he felt it was time to get into the tank that the styro box was sitting on top of... so Jumped from the 4" of water in the styro box over the side across the glass top of the tank and into the water of the 50 gallon tank below... where a 10" hybrid lives :WHOA:Oh ... BTW did I mention that I wasn't in the room when this happened and had a heart attach when I came back into the room and didn't see a new fishy in the styro...I checked the floor first and on my way back up to the box to check it again...I see a chubby little catfish chillin up against my Hybrid  good thing he was WELL Fed

I wound up getting 10 in total. I have them in a planted guppy tank and they all seem to be doing well. The biggest is about 4 1/2" and the runt is about 3 1/2". They seem to be picking off the baby guppies and the males. They don't seem to bother with the larger female guppies. Every couple of days I give them some of the Hikari sinking carnivore pellets, shrimp, or whatever fish is on sale at the supermarket. By day you don't even know their in the tank but around 10-11pm they all start to become active. I have a moonlight on the tank so I've been watching them hunt and know why they are called ambush hunters. I've been reading on planetcatfish.com about breeding but have only found articles on microglanis. No luck yet on breeding but I'm starting to notice some distinct differences ie head and body shape, and coloration. Don't know who's who yet. I have noticed that a few of them seem to always be together. Can't really say if they are paired up or just coincidental. I've been trying to get some good pics but no luck. I get a black blur. I got to set up a tripod I guess.
