Depends on where your from and what the ocal cost is for the acrylic... some places it's very expensive for the thicker stuff. Here .. it would make sence to do a method like this

Like I said, I don't have too much experience with acrylic. How come welding 2 pieces of 1/2" pieces equals 3/4" instead of 1"?
