How did you manage to change the substrates??

I just use a dustpan to get the old out. Then I wash the new and put it in.

Dustpan works good - thats what I used to take out the gravel from my old tank when I went from gravel to bare bottom.

Me too!!! I want to do it with my tank so bad but Im afraid that i'll go through a bad cycle again!! and my Sev's freaking out!!!

Your gravel has really nothing to do with cycling. If you have adequate filtration and the media has beneficial bacteria, then it is no different that a water change. The water or gravel don't restart the cycle unless you kill the bacteria in the filter media. Changing substrate and changing all the water should not do that.
