i once took a whole handful of lilys in and made a beautiful table arrangement... company was coming for dinner... in the middle of dinner i started to smell this awful stink..... why do they have to stink so bad..never that again

Apparently the mountain ash berries are safe to eat after boiling. The flavor is reported to be less-than-desirable, but it's a good source of raw starch if you're hungry. Or curious to try it out. But it's a laborious task to go eating bland berry after bland berry, so the recommended serving style is mashed with strong herbs.
