Was looking at Juruense Shovel nose but wondered if it was a somewhat easy species to keep. Are there any other small (max of 2 feet) species of catfish that are easy and interesting?

IMO there are alot o f cats that are fun to keep. Even your cheep and common 4 line pim or pictus cats are great fish to keep. They are energetic and eat like pigs. They are easy to take care of and accept a wide variety of foods. If you are looking for something a little more exotic an ornate pim is a good choice. They get to about 18". I dont think that a juruense is that difficult to keep though. All you have to do is be on top of the water conditions in the tank it is housed in and make sure it is eating. Mine will eat chopped silversides, chopped market shrimp, frozen prawn, and rosys. If you make sure the water conditions are in top shape and it is eating well you should have no problems keeping it.

If your tank is big enogh, you could also go with a channel cat. Bulletproof! They grow fast, and will eat anything. It's one of my favorite fish :o)

That fish grows beyond his two foot limit. A bullhead would make a great alternative though. Or how about a sun catfish?

if you never kept cat's .. start small cory's IMO........

I've kept cats before, currently I have about 8 species of cory, 2 bumblebee cats, 3 baby channel cats (2.6 ft one someone dropped off at work, yes I know they push 2 feet) and some irredesent sharks (if you consider them cats.)

Personally I am not a big synodontis (though I like synodontis multiplancatus) or pims fan I would really like to go for the oddball cats that you usually dont see.

I have a lima shovelnose at work and personally I find the species very uninteresting. Sure they are a shovelnose but they don't have nice streamers etc...

I have had sun cats before but I found them to be frantic and they like to go where they can't fit and get stuck.

Just curious, whats a bullhead? Link to info on it would be great!
