Begginer cats?

if you are looking for some oddball cats then there are alot of options depending on how much you are willing to spend. You could go with a juruense or a tigrinus. Both are going to max out at under 3 feet so a large tank is needed but nothing like what you need for a red tail. Another oddball cat is the Platystomatichthys sturio. It has very unique body shape and has super long wiskers and streamers. It grows to about 18". Another cool cat is the Platysilurus malarmo which maxes out a little over 2', it also has long streamers. The next cat that I hope get is a Goslinia platynema. Awesome cat that has similar body shape as a tigrinus and juruense. However they are tough to get and I have heard they are tough to keep alive.

All of the brachyplatystomas can be pretty delicate when juveniles, and they also aren't nearly as active at a younger age, especially with tankmates. I wouldn't really recomend them for a beginner cat.

I will surely keep that in consideration.

I don't think you can go far wrong with Sorubim Lima. I think that you should only choose them if you could have at least 2 though because i have found they are much more active when they have a 'fiend' and are more willing to feed. Otherwise Syno's

How much do Tigrinus cost in the US???

I could but a tigrinis (10") for about 250 due to working at a LFS, but usually they can run people 300-1000 bucks.
