Ok i came to the conclusion im going to keep the NW cichlids but without the convict... now my question is will these two be okView attachment 736590and if so i dont know the gender of the Red Devil but being as the Dempsey is Female would it be ok to intergrate an Male EBJD into the mix with just them three, and if so should i then remove the crushed Coral and what substrate would be best then sand or gravel.dark or light colored

Good choice... IMO. I would not keep an EBJD in the same tank as a RD... EBJD's are not like normal Jacks... they are not all rough and tough. What about your GT?? As for the gravel... it is which ever type you like the most. I like natural colored sand, but you can go with a dark gravel if you like that better. The sand keeps all the "junk" right on top since it is so compacted... the gravel will have stuff in between the stones a little more. Sand, however will also get sucked into your filters from time to time, which kind of sucks. Good luck.

I agree that brine shrimp is def the better of the two (blood worms), however just feel that a steady diet of Cichlid Excel is better for the fish. I've never lost an Mbuna to bloat doing it this way and I know a few people who have gone the other route and lost some to the dreaded "Malawi Bloat". Does not really matter now since the OP is going with American cichlids, lol.

I still can't believe this guy just throws in ham and cheese sandwiches?? He ate half and threw the other half in the tank... said he does it all the time and the Aro loves it?? Prob had mayo/mustard too??

since my Gt is female then if i get rid of my RD add a EBJD get some dark substrate id be on an alright path also i thinkin of purchasin from graigslist a 90 gallon i also feed them New life spectrum 1mm sinking for cichlids

Just to let ya know, some cichlids colors will wash out with dark gravel.
 
I'm betting your jack is a male still, and pretty sure the green terror is female (99% type sure). On the jack I just don't see enough cheek marking for a female.

The best way the OP could find out for sure is to shine a flashlight on the fish in the dark, if it glows blue (not the spangles) it's a female. Though it is possible for a female to have very little and a male to have some. I also see the spangles on the side of the body get smaller and fade out as it goes down towards the back where with males it stays big and bright all the way down the body.

Male. A little under a year old in these picture.

I think as time goes on in your tank you'll notice the CA/SA and African mixture will start to develop aggression issues. I've seen it tried before and it never turns out pretty. To my surprise, most of the time I've seen it the smaller africans actually come out on top of the CA/SA which kind of surprised me. Those africans can be pretty aggressive IME. IMO I don't really think the larger tank size will change the aggression between the two species. But anything is possible I guess. I personally wouldn't want to roll the dice with it though.
